This is part 2 that discusses what sets the Super Rich apart from your average Joe Millionaire.

The 7 Money Rules are principally derived from studying billionaires and those on the fast track to becoming super-rich. They are applicable to anyone interested in becoming significantly wealthier.

Here’s some primary differences in one’s mindset that sets the super rich apart from the average millionaire.

Rule: COMMITMENT

• Professional – seeks work/life balance, where money is only part of the equation
• Super-Rich – creating wealth is the top priority and primary motivation

Rule: SELF-INTEREST

• Professional – Looking to make everyone “happy” or get a fair deal
• Super-Rich – Making sure they are winners, strategically or financially, in every meaningful situation

Rule: LINE of MONEY

• Professional – Believe if they do what they love, the money will follow
• Super-Rich - Pursue only those activities that have significant probability of generating above-average financial returns

Rule: CONNECTIONS

• Professional – Network with a lot of people for social, cultural and business purposes
• Super-Rich - Build strong relationships with a handful of strategically valuable people

Rule: PAYOUTS

• Professional – Create rapport and look to help others
• Super-Rich – Ensure each party is duly compensated for his or her contribution

Rule: FAILURE

• Professional – Failure is a major obstacle that can cause setbacks, reassessments and new directions
• Super-Rich – Failure is a learning experience and a motivator

Rule: CENTERED

• Professional – Concentrate on overcoming weaknesses and becoming a well-rounded person
• Super-Rich – Concentrate on their strengths and delegate (outsource) everything else

Are you starting to see a pattern here?

The fluffy new-age mentality and many internet marketers who come across as likable people who want to be everybody’s buddy fit into the Joe Millionaire catagory (and so does the majority of middle management america) while Mr. Burns from the Simpsons seems to reflect the typical example of the Super-Rich profile.

Now I’ve seen people in our industry that as they have become more and more successful, begin to embody more of the Super-Rich mentality – most likely, they embraced these approaches first which is what propelled them to the next level.

The last two rules – failure and centering – I think many leaders in the IM industry (and myself) actually teach and lean more towards  the super-rich approach – learning from one’s failures and concentrating on what you’re good at while outsourcing everything else.

Maybe that glass ceiling for most people exists because it’s designed that way. The super-rich don’t want too much company. They are often greedy power mongers (and mingers,lol) at the core and their hubris nature can’t allow the minions of the world to truly compete with them, rather they are merely tools and pawns to be used to maintain their elevated wealth status.

Seems to me like if money is the primary goal, then at the end of the day, money will be all that you have. Which sounds better to you?

#1 You Commit Yourself To Extreme Wealth

The super-rich have a clear sense that money is THE main objective.  They prioritize and concentrate on activities that have the highest potential return and assign a lower priority to everything else.

#2 You Engage In Enlightened Self-Interest

The super-rich are focused on reaching their goals and don’t waver or allow themselves to be derailed or distracted by the chance for group happiness or pleas for fairness. At the same time, they regularly do the advance work needed to create an advantage or exploit a weakness in an opponent.

#3 You Put Yourself in the Line of Money

Since most skills and abilities are portable, the super-rich primarily concentrate their skills and talents in those situations that offer the highest returns. They pursue the projects and initiatives that have the highest potential for outsized returns, now and in the future.

#4 You Pay Everyone Involved

The super-rich generally never assume people are willing to work for free – working for personal satisfaction or fulfillment – and therefore they reward handsomely to cultivate loyalty and specific behaviors in their associates and business partners. The key is to identify the value people provide and reward them accordingly.

#5 You Network For Profit and Results

The super-rich practice nodal networking. Nodal networking is where a person has a few very powerful, influential, highly targeted, professional relationships with people who in turn have an array of similar relationships of their own.  Therefore they develop and maintain a small network of relationships that lead to power and influence. (The exclusive Big Boys Club).

#6 You Use Your Failures to Improve and Refocus

Failure is inevitable, so it’s not about avoiding it. Most super-rich carefully analyze their failures and do all they can to prevent repeating them.

#7 You Remain Highly Centered

The super-rich realize that they do a few things very well and they know what those skills are. This insight allows them to align their skills and talents in directions that translate into maximum personal wealth creation.

After reading through these rules, you might think that it requires a sociopathic personality to pull this off. Someone who’s a bit ruthless and cutthroat. Perhaps that is true to some degree and could be another barrier that keeps most of us from attaining vast wealth. We simply don’t have the mind or heart for it.

Ok, I will admit I have been challenged by clutter in my environment, which as you may realize, will adversely affect your head.  Now I’m not so bad that I’d be worthy of that Horders show – not by a long shot. That’s a symptom of a serious psychological disorder…. Anyway,

Cluttered space = cluttered mind.

You could replace the word “clutter” with fragmented, scattered, distracted, over extended, or what have you.

Thanks to my best friend casually mentioning a book he dug out of his, uh, pile of  stuff, I ran and got a copy of this book that after reading, realized that it is a MUST READ for self-proclaimed pac-rats. Honestly, I can’t think of too many people who wouldn’t benefit from this book in some part of their life.

If your space is cluttered, often it’s indicative that you’ve got too much on your plate.

Sure, some of us will pull the ADD/ADHD card and use that excuse, but hey, that’s not a good reason to avoid the issue.

If your work environment is looking more like a landfill than a model feng shui space, then likely your business is suffering financially as well.

Take a moment and check in.

Are you being realistic with your time?

Is your to-do list prioritized in order of importance?

Keeping your physical space neat and tidy is not only pleasing to the eye, but it helps create an environment that is conducive to creativity and productivity.

If you’re like me, you battle with clutter in the workplace and home more than you’d care to admit.

Get help with this – trust me – especially you pac-rats. Without an outside objective opinion, you’ll find a reason to hold onto every last bit of paper.

Best tip I read is to first clear EVERYTHING off first, and then add back just what’s necessary.

Time management is so 20th Century

Happy 2011!

Seems like an opportune time to bring up managing your life skills, what with the tradition of New Year’s resolutions that people rarely keep.

I came across an article by Sandy Klim in AAA magazine last month that I want to repost here as I found it to be a good illustration of how to plan one’s day in such a way that will give you a sense of priorities and meaningful accomplishments all without stressing out.

It goes something like this:

To plan your day, imagine a large empty pickle jar.

1. Take three or four large rocks and add them to the jar.
2. Now take a small handful of pebbles and toss them in, jiggling it a bit to make them fit.
3. Next, add a handful of sand.
4. Now fill the remaining space in the jar with water.

There’s a lot of stuff in your jar. But it’s not just the objects, it’s the order and volume of each item. If you were to put the water and sand in first,and then your pebbles, very few of the large rockes would fit. Or if you tried to just put in 10 large rocks, they’d break the jar.

Such is the case with planning your day. Identify three or four high priority items that must get done (the rocks), plus a number of smaller, lower priority tasks such as emails, follow-ups, etc. (the pebbles), as well as everyday routine stuff (the sand). And remember that your jar should contain room for family and personal time (the water).

I will end this by saying, the new paradigm (which will be surpassed by yet another new revelation) is that you can’t manage your time, but rather you should manage your energy.

Whether you’re looking to put systems into place that give you more freedom and flexibility in your business or would like to take a year to travel the world, this book is brimming with resources and ideas to help you do just that. If you’re going to add one more book to your must-read list for 2010, this is it.

Author Tim Ferris is my hero for three simple reasons:

1. He has learned the art of delegating almost everything that is work-related and generously shares how he does it in this book and on his blog.
2. He believes that life is meant to be lived richly before retirement. In fact, why retire if you are doing things that you really love in the first place?
3. He doesn’t sweat the small stuff. Mistakes are going to happen (especially when you are outsourcing) and he just rolls with it.

To Tim, it’s all a learning experience and another life adventure. When bad stuff happens, you learn from it and just course correct. If you’re looking to design a lifestyle on your own terms, then this book is an absolute must-read.

Why? Because I broke one of the most important rules of blogging. MAINTAIN consistent posting. As in, if you usually post once a day, then post once a day. If it’s once a week, then post once a week. I’ve been sporadic at best.

But I have a reason (or excuse) for this – however you want to think of it.  Life happens.  That’s the short of it.  The long of it is too many plates in the air.

I also have come to the conclusion that my passion isn’t strong enough with this blog as it’s not a true reflection of me.  It’s focus is too narrow – which is usually a good thing when it comes to marketing.  Without getting into it, I’ve decided to focus my energy on a new blog, TerrypCarter.com I just started this week.

TerrypCarter.com is an experiment in lifestyle design..  As I learn and grow and discover new interests, so will my blog.

An added twist and major reason for being is I’m going to use everything I’ve learned and continue to learn about making money online to bring the blog from zero to $20,000 per month in income. I just arbitrarily set that. I’ll have lesser goals that’ll be milestones along the way. And I’m certainly not going to put any limits on it.

This is part of the lifestyle design experiment and one of the main reasons why I’ve been doing this MaAM blog et. al. for all this time – to show people how to free themselves from the contstraints of geography and time when it comes to your source of income – a la Timothy Ferriss’s 4 Hour Work Week and others.

Commander Lee Archambault leads Discovery’s crew of seven, along with Pilot Tony Antonelli, and Mission Specialists Joseph Acaba, John Phillips, Steve Swanson, Richard Arnold and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Koichi Wakata on mission STS-119 to the International Space Station.

The STS-119 crew members are flying the S6 truss segment and installing the final set of power-generating solar arrays to the International Space Station. The S6 truss will complete the backbone of the station and provide one-fourth of the total power needed to support a crew of six.

In my other life, I have a massage business at Home Shopping Network in St Pete.  The other week, Ms. Paula Abdul was in town doing a show for her latest merchandise. Needless to say, the stuff is selling like crazy for her.

I’ll admit I’ve been a fan of hers since seeing her on MTV in 1989 with her Straight Up video. The girl can dance!

I was on campus that day and had the opportunity to meet her.  Don’t bother asking if she retained my services as I never disclose my clientele to the public.

I will tell you this – Paula is a genuinely sweet person and very cordial, not to mention smaller in person than I expected, and very beautiful.  Let’s just say she has nothing to worry about with HD television.
